13th March 2015
There are a number of presentations, panel discussions and performances during The Future: New Ideas, New Inspirations, Dance UK's Industry-Wide Conference, that will be of interest to those involved in children and young people’s dance.
Linda Jasper, Director of Youth Dance England has chosen a few sessions that are relevant to Youth Dance England's work:
Dance and public health expert, Jan Burkhardt, will speak about the impact of dance on the population’s health. This is of special interest as it is highly relevant to making the case for investment in children and young people’s dance.
Linda Jasper, Director of Youth Dance England, will chair a panel on the subject of the Status of Dance Education. Four experts from schools, cultural education, youth and professional dance companies will join Linda in discussing the current situation and identifying creative ways of improving the dance offer for children and young people.
At the same time as the panel discussion there will be a session on Captivating Young Audiences chaired by Alice McGrath.
The National Youth Dance Company will be performing the world premiere of Frame(d) by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.
Two performances will present the work of Youth Dance England’s Young Creatives 2015, a national programme to develop the skills of young choreographers aged 15 to 19 years.
The final day of the conference is devoted to developing emerging artists. Focusing on different models from the UK and overseas, it will feature leaders in the field such as Wayne McGregor CBE, Dr. Christopher Bannerman and Lawrence Rhodes from The Julliard School. Young people’s voices will be inter-woven throughout the event. The event is programmed by the National Youth Dance Company at Sadler’s Wells.
The Future: New Ideas, New Inspirations is a conference that will provide inspiration for all dance professionals working with children and young people.
